I watched episodes 6-8 at one shot, so I’ll cover all of them in this post.

The whole Ichigaya plotline, with him having scammed them of 10 billion (?) yen but still being a good guy who wanted to make the console port a success felt really contrived. The scam bit I can buy, but if he cared about the console port, then wouldn’t that make it not a scam? That said, I am willing to accept it as a plot device because it does its job. The debt also explains why Alchohol Soft doesn’t exist in the present.

Touya is such a mysterious character, and has had quite the character arc. I imagine she’s being set up to have a bigger role as a rival or saviour and I hope her plot thread goes somewhere.

Kohonoha’s plan for her game seems like its going to be a disaster. It’s just a hodgepoge of every idea she fancies and doesn’t feel like it will pull together well. For some reason, even with all the fantasy developments, I find this to be one of the least believable parts of the plot. Perhaps because the other strange phenomena are just plot devices to make the story possible, whereas the actual game that she’s making is the plot. Not that I don’t love the theme of passion, but it would feel weird if passion alone is sufficient to overcome this crisis.

Mamoru’s trip to the past and part timing for aliens was such a fever dream. The animation reminds me a bit of Shaft, with the backgrounds and imagery that make no sense but somehow are completely ignored by the characters. Especially considering Mamoru is a rather serious character, its kind of strange how he just takes everything in stride and ignores the oddness of the situation. In the end I’m not sure what the intent of the episode was, but again the idea of imagination and passion making Akihabara and Otaku culture what it is was hype.

Looking forward to what’s next!
