Mob Psycho is back and its starting off with some hard questions. I only realized it after seeing the episode was out and had to refresh myself on what had happened before.
Faced with the question of what his aspirations for the future are, Mob is unable to come up with a satisfactory answer. Asking around, he finds that somehow everyone around him seems to have some idea of where they see themselves in the future. What are the odds of that. Nevertheless, he feels uneasy not knowing what he wants to do.
Later in the episode, we are introduced to a client who blames his current state of life on the supernatural. Putting aside his victim complex, Reigen steps away to escape the filthy house and get the exorcism tools he requires. Honestly Reigen would probably make a good therapist with his approach to life if he wasn’t also a con artist. While Reigen is away Serizawa and Mob both get influenced by the client and fall into pessimism. Having these characters at different stages of their life yet facing similar worries acts as a call to action for the viewer. As Reigen put it, Mob’s doing a good job thinking about it at his age, Serizawa is also doing the best he can despite being a hikkikomori till 30, stepping out and meeting new people. As for the 50 year old guy, he’s got a fresh start and is able to have a positive attitude towards life again. The power of cleaning up. Unfortunately, he is shown collecting trash again so I’m not very sure what the point of that was. Change has to come from within and you can’t blame your failings on things out of your control and hope somebody will blow all your problems away?
As for me, I think so long as you’re making an effort to improve yourself and live life to its fullest then there’s no need to worry. Of course that’s not the same as not thinking about it, its never a bad idea to consider the future and make plans to focus your efforts on. In Mob’s case his worries were shown to be unfounded, with his discussion with his teacher being uneventful. After all its not odd for a 15 year old kid to not know what they want to do. That said he still gave the advice that it would be good if he had an idea of what he wanted to do.
