Cyberpunk 2077 & Cyberpunk: EdgeRunners

Spoilers for the game and the anime. I was late for the party for both the anime and the game, but as it all worked out in the end. Overall, I have a very positive experience of both. My interest in the anime was actually piqued by having been spoiled on the ending, having avoided it due to the violence. I then proceeded to avoid it knowing that sadness awaited ahead.

Too Many Losing Heroines!

Makeine’s comedy is on point. I also find it really funny that the production team made a calorie tracker and relationship chart that updated with each episode on the website. I like Yakishio because shes an outstanding athlete and yet is so close with the literature club. She even takes Komari running which is nice nod to how close she is to the rest of them. She’s the purest of the lot and is supportive of Ayano and his girlfriend, knowing that they are a good match for each other.

Akebi's Sailor Uniform

A little encouragement can go a long way. Komichi might be the main character, but her classmates are just as important. They each have their own personalities and wants, and often Komichi’s role is just to be there and give them a little encouragement. At the end of the day, they are the ones who put in the effort to improve or fight for what they want. Akebi’s Sailor Uniform is very beautifully written.

My Love Story With Yamada Kun at Lv999

It’s a cute anime that was so comfy that I binged it over 3 days. Besides that, its very cliched and trope-y with a terrible title. All in all it was an enjoyable experienced and I loved that there was very little drama in it. There isn’t too much else to say about it, but I just wanted to comment on the premise. Perhaps this is answered in the manga and I should take a look but, how did Akane get into the guild in the first place?

16bit Sensation Another Layer 8

I watched episodes 6-8 at one shot, so I’ll cover all of them in this post. The whole Ichigaya plotline, with him having scammed them of 10 billion (?) yen but still being a good guy who wanted to make the console port a success felt really contrived. The scam bit I can buy, but if he cared about the console port, then wouldn’t that make it not a scam? That said, I am willing to accept it as a plot device because it does its job.

Frieren 12

A present for a warrior who has tried their best. What a way to end of the episode. I didn’t think I would be writing another post on Frieren so soon but here I am. Not only did his brother treat Stark as family, he also acknowledged his efforts and told Stark to run because he wanted him to live. The realization that his brother didn’t view him as a failure but someone who was trying his best changed the way he remembered running away from his hometown.

Frieren 10

Frieren’s battle with Aura was an example of how a strong setup can make for an amazing payoff. At the end of the day, all the fight came down to was the single instance when Aura decided to use the scales and ended in a couple of minutes. Instead of jumping straight into it and ending the episode there, half of the episode was spent justifying why the demons didn’t know how strong Frieren was, and another half hyping up the eventual reveal.

16bit Sensation Another Layer 5

The more I delve into 16bit Sensation, the more I get hooked. I started the series because of a recommendation by Fuwamoco, was hooked by the main character’s enthusiasm and got really into it from the hints of an actual plot. While the series already works as a Shirobako for galge, the ED to the first episode hinted to a deeper plot which the subsequent episodes do appear to be following up on.

Josse, the Tiger and the Fish

I stumbled upon this in the “critically acclaimed” section of Netflix so I went in with some expectations. Sypnosis The movie tells the story of the growing relationship between Josse and Tsueno. Josse is a disabled girl, cooped up at home by her grandmother after an incident which almost left her badly injured. Tsueno is a university student who works as her caregiver after he saved Josse from said incident in a chance encounter.

Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 1

I went into this with no expectations because the first experience I had with it was the anime which I think didn’t do the series justice. For some reason it decides to start with a scene from after part 1, and moves at a breakneck pace, skipping much of what made the series great to me. The animation quality was also quite mediocre leaving me to write it off as yet another wish fulfillment isekai where the protagonist using their knowledge of their original world to become a god.
