I went into this with no expectations because the first experience I had with it was the anime which I think didn’t do the series justice. For some reason it decides to start with a scene from after part 1, and moves at a breakneck pace, skipping much of what made the series great to me. The animation quality was also quite mediocre leaving me to write it off as yet another wish fulfillment isekai where the protagonist using their knowledge of their original world to become a god.
Goodbye Eri was the first of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s works that I had read and it was a surreal yet touching experience. It had a unique style and knew how to appeal to my emotions. Yet at the same time it was an absurd story with twists that betrayed my expectations as it likely intended. Till now I still don’t know what it was about but I did get a feel as to why people talk about Tatsuki Fujimoto the way they do.
I first looked at Oshi No Ko because I heard that the writer of Kaguya Sama: Love is War, Akasaka Aka also wrote another manga. After reading the first chapter however I quickly dropped the series because of the differences between the two. As opposed to a lighthearted (at the start) romcom, Oshi No Ko appeared to be a murder mystery focused on idol culture with a really weird twist. I’m not a fan of blood and gore, and despite being a fan of virtual idols, I am very off put by the darker side of the fanbase.
